Bathroom Remodeling: What are my options?submitted by Illia Kornea of Luxury Bath Systems
First, you will need to decide if you are looking for an enduring solution or a fast fix. You need to think about how long you want your remodel to last. Remember, you get what you pay for and the most expensive bathroom is the one you have to do over and over again.
When it comes to remodeling a bathroom most homeowners think that there are many ways, however there are only million ways you can remodel a bathroom.
The first four options are for a quick fix:1. You can re-glaze and paint over your tub and tiles. This costs about 0. Most companies will give a 3-5 year warranty. Will chip and crack and peel.
2. You can redo the wall system by purchasing vinyl walls from a home center. This will run 0-0. DIY with liquid nail will last 3-5 years before it cracks and pulls away from the wall. Hiring a contractor will cost 0-,200.00.
3. Fiberglass costs from ,200- ,000. To install a fiberglass unit, you must remove everything including sheet rock as this unit installs into the wall studs. The total cost with a contractor is approximately ,500 and will last approximately 5-7 years before the fiberglass becomes difficult to clean or cracks.
4. The tile bathroom remodel is more expensive. To update a 5-by-7-foot bathroom, replace fixtures including the tub; install tile around the tub and shower; add a new shower control; standard white toilet; solid-surface vanity counter with integral sink; recessed medicine cabinet with light; ceramic tile floor and vinyl wallpaper will run approximately ,000 for a mid-range remodel (according to Remodel Magazine in 2007). This will generally last 7-10 years.
For a permanent solution:
5. Install an acrylic tub and wall system that comes with a lifetime warranty. You will never have to do it again and it will cost less. The total remodeling price will depend on how much work needs to be done prior to installation as well as colors and styles you choose.
