You will require the voltage of the battery and the DC meter to be compatible.

You must also make sure of certain things before purchasing your materials. To prevent the battery from overcharging, your battery must have a charge controller. The DC meter should be connected to the battery container first, to give you optimum lasting power of your 12-volt battery. You can connect your battery to the container by using the insulated wire – this is done by connecting the first wire to the negative input present in your battery. Then you would connect the solar panel and the DC inlet to the battery at this point. Then the complete device should be sealed. You can then place your panel outside in an optimum place that would generate the maximum amount of power from sunlight.

The angle of the placement is very important and the panel should be placed correctly – you can do this by adding 15 degrees to your latitude and tilting the solar panel to that angle. The panel should also face the right direction according to which hemisphere you live in. For the southern hemisphere your panel should face north and for the northern hemisphere it should face south.
